If anyone was uncertain whether Ryan Gosling was dedicated to the role of Ken in the Barbie movie, his surprise present to Barbie director Greta Gerwig proves it.

Gosling surprised Gerwig with a flash mob of men dressed up as ‘Kens’, doing a dedicated dance for the birthday girl to the film’s iconic ‘I’m Just Ken’ anthem.

In the clip you can see Gerwig, still sitting on her reformer in a gym clearly surprised by the intrusion to her workout, laughing with her head in her hands.

The video was posted to the Barbie movie Instagram alongside the caption, “Ken Ryan sent these special Barbies and Kens to start Greta’s birthday with all the feelings!! @bookaflashmob @heymarkavery,” the message concluded.”

Greta continued to sit stunned in her Pilates gear repeating “Oh my God” as the flash mob Kens danced their hearts out for her.

After their heartfelt rendition of ‘I’m Just Ken’, the flash mob moved onto an energetic performance of Dua Lipa’s hit song for the film ‘Dance The Night Away’, and then shouted “Happy Birthday Greta!” at the end of their performance.

After getting over the initial shock and disbelief at the situation unfolding in front of her, Gerwig clapped and celebrated the performance, even getting up to hug the Kens in the flash mob. It’s clear she was touched by the performance, wiping away happy tears at the sight of it.

“That was so beautiful,” she said, to them before asking incredulously, “Who are you?”

“Guess who planned this?” the person recording the surprise performance asked.

“I have no idea!” Gerwig said. The cameraman replied, “Think of a bagpiper.”

Those who have researched all the behind-the-scenes moments of the making of the Barbie movie will know that Gosling sent over a man to play the bagpipes at a sleepover Gerwig had organized for the cast.

The strange addition to their party was in lieu of Gosling himself, who couldn’t attend the sleepover.

It’s safe to say that Gosling has well and truly shown himself to be a dedicated Ken in most circumstances, whether it be on the red carpet promoting the film, or simply in his day to day life wishing his director a happy birthday.

Go Ken!
