Taking place on June 2, Trooping The Colour kicks off the start of the United Kingdom’s bank holiday weekend to celebrate Her Majesty’s reign, the longest of any Monarch in British history.

For the event, royal members from far and wide came together to celebrate the great-grandmother and her contributions to the UK.

And while reuniting either on the balcony or within the walls of Buckingham Palace, all eyes were on the royal family members’ fashion choices to see if they took the highly-publicised moment to pay homage to other royals. Thankfully, they did exactly that.

From Kate Middleton’s references to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, to Prince Louis sporting the same outfit as another royal, there were plenty of fashion connections to whet our appetite for the Jubilee-related events to come.

Kate Middleton Wore Princess Diana’s Sapphire Earrings And Similar White Suit

It’s no surprise that Kate Middleton loves to pay tribute to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. So, at this year’s Trooping The Colour, Kate donned an item from the late Princess’ personal collection.

Looking regal in a white Alexander McQueen blazer dress with a blue and white Philip Treacy hat, her look was eerily similar to an outfit that Lady Di wore in August 1991. A white dress with a similar button detail, padded shoulders and a large, brimmed hat, Diana’s ensemble was clearly a point of inspiration for Kate for the 2022 event.

But that wasn’t all, while Diana wore a pair of pearl earrings in her 1991 look, Kate chose to honour her husband’s late mother by wearing a pair of her sapphire and diamond drop earrings.

These very same earrings were notably worn by Princess Diana, with a matching sapphire and pearl choker when she attended the 1996 Met Gala, three months after her divorce from Prince Charles.

Prince Louis Wore The Same Sailor Outfit That Two-Year-Old Prince William Wore In 1985

Royals fans don’t often get to see Prince William and Kate Middleton’s three children—George, Charlotte and Louis—in the public eye. But for the Trooping The Colour ceremony, we were lucky enough to see the siblings all together to celebrate their great-grandmother’s momentous achievement.

But while standing on the Buckingham Palace balcony and watching the planes above, all eyes were on Louis. While his hilarious reaction to the show was adorable to say the least, it was his sailor-like outfit that also caught our attention. More than three decades after his father, Prince Louis wore the exact same outfit that his father wore, as a two-year-old for a previous Trooping The Colour event.

The mini blue-and-white sailor outfit is an almost-identical match to one that the Duke of Cambridge wore for the exact same parade 37-years-ago, in 1985.

Meghan Markle Rewore Her Wedding Weekend Dress To Trooping The Colour

Given their removal of royal titles and move to California, there was a lot of speculation around whether Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle would be attending Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. And thankfully, the pair flew to the UK to attend the family affair.

Since they stepped down from their royal titles in 2020, the couple weren’t able to stand on the balcony alongside the Queen, instead enjoying the events from inside the palace, in the Major General’s Office. In photos released by People, Harry and Meghan can be seen being playful with Zara Tindall’s daughters, Mia and Lena, as well as Peter Phillip’s daughter, Savannah.

According to People, the publication has speculated that the dress she wore to watch the Trooping The Colour was the same Roland Mouret number that she wore on the evening before her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018.

And if that’s the case, we love her ode to rewearing old favourites.
