While we tend to heal our heartbreaks à la Carrie Bradshaw (read: trips to Manolo Blahnik and downing Cosmopolitan’s with our girlfriends), it turns out that Rachel Bilson actually has the most relatable dating advice for anyone who is going through a breakup.
Speaking on her podcast Broad Ideas, the 40-year-old actress revealed to her guest, Mandy Moore, about exactly how difficult it was for her to overcome her recent breakup with comedian Bill Hader.
In case you’ve been living under an ‘OC’ sized rock, Bilson and Hader dated for a little under a year between 2019 and 2020.
“I went through a really hard breakup and it was during the pandemic and I couldn’t even leave my house,” Bilson said.
“I had nothing else to do but sit in it and deal with it and feel it,” the star explained.
Bilson then went on to describe her breakup as the hardest thing she had ever done. “It was harder than childbirth, even though it hurt like a motherf*cker,” she added.
Despite the pain, Bilson explained that she managed to get through it and had some refreshing advice to her listeners who may be feeling the same way.
“If you actually face it, you can come out of it and be like, ‘OK, I did that and I’m ready for the next thing’,” she added. It seems like Summer Roberts could have definitely used this advice during her breakup with Seth Cohen on The OC.
Hader and Bilson broke up in July 2020, six months after making their public appearance as a couple at the Golden Globes Awards in January.
While Hader is currently dating actress Anna Kendrick, Bilson did not divulge the current status of her relationship.
Bilson was previously linked to her former co-star Adam Brody and was in an on-again-off-again relationship with Star Wars alumni Hayden Christensen for over a decade. Bilson and Christensen share one child together, a daughter named Briar Rose.
