He’s the most effervescent member of the Fab Five, but Queer Eye grooming expert Jonathan Van Ness has fought the darkness of depression.
In a new interview with Time Out, Van Ness describes his experience with psychotic depression after his stepfather’s death.
“I was 25, and I was watching my stepdad pass away from cancer,” he begins. “I was in yoga every day, I was in therapy, and I was on and then off medication the same year.”
He’s speaking out to urge people not to quit suddenly like he did.
“When I got off of them, I quit cold turkey. It was like, six months of psychotic depression,” he reveals. “So, don’t do that.”
“If you do decide to get off, definitely wean yourself off,” he continues, adding, “Maybe don’t take advice from this interview about what you should do with antidepressants, because I don’t know you.”
