The royal family have a certain knack for making even the most mundane, ordinary moments into a global news event—so when Prince Louis was captured on candid camera running with purpose outside a Norfolk church on Christmas morning, the internet sat up straight and watched.
The moment came after the royal family, including the new King Charles III, Camilla, Queen Consort and the Princess and Prince of Wales, attended their usual Christmas service near their country residences in the east of England. The public walkabout after the service is usually a spectacle with royal watchers revelling over Kate Middleton’s outfit and hanging out to hear every interaction they have with the crowds.
But this year, Prince Louis’ great sprint with a posy of flowers in hand and yelling “Charlotte!” at the top of his lungs was the winning moment.
Why was Prince Louis running?
Prince Louis joined his parents and siblings for his first Christmas service at Norfolk. While running isn’t exactly the norm for royals during public walkabouts, Louis can be excused due to his newness to the whole procedure and the fact that he’s literally four years old.
In several clips captured by television crews and members of the public, the young royal was seen sprinting up to Princess Charlotte where he handed her a posy of flowers.
Whether Louis decided to gift the flowers to Charlotte on his own or if the original flower-giver in the crowd specifically asked him to give them to his sister is unknown. Either way, the internet is in meltdown over the gesture.
Louis wasn’t the only one to make an impression at the royal photo opp. Kate Middleton stepped out in a classic Christmas ensemble featuring her old favourite Alexander McQueen forest green coat and a matching hat by Philip Treacy. She also wore a pair of Sezane earrings, which are understood to be a gift from William.
Meanwhile, Princess Charlotte wore a coat in burgundy and added a matching red ribbon to her hair. Like his father, Prince George wore a standard suit and tie set.
The nine-year-old future King was celebrated earlier on Christmas Day when his parents shared their annual Christmas message, which featured an impressive drawing of a reindeer courtesy of George himself.
The Wales’ are really upping the ante this festive season, and while this might be the last we see of them for a short while, we have a feeling there’s plenty more viral moments to come.
