Raf Simons’ Debut For Prada Made History For All The Right Reasons

The meeting of two great fashion minds

Prada’s spring/summer 2021 show was always going to be a big deal.

For one thing, it saw the union of two fashion superpowers, with Raf Simons (Dior, Calvin Klein) joining Miuccia Prada as co-creative director of the storied Italian house.

For another, it was a live-streamed virtual experience a new way to stage a fashion show amid a global pandemic. And every model in the show was walking their very first runway.

This celebration of newness resulted in fresh but focused fashion. Accessories shone, from dainty, coloured slingbacks to the famed Prada backpack and logo-everything. Aptly titled Dialogue, the collection masterfully fused each designer’s signatures (Miuccia’s full pleated skirts and pyjamas; Raf’s subtle yet statement outerwear and tailored pants).

The result was a sense of coming together, and a harbinger of good things to come.
