Getting a pet is no easy decision. First, there’s the process of picking one that will fit in with you and your family, then there’s prepping the house with everything the little one needs, and then settling it into the house while still juggling a busy work schedule.
But in the best news we’ve heard all week, a Nordic pet food company, Musti Group, (which is based Norway, Sweden and Finland) is now offering its employees three days of paid ‘pawternity’ leave for when they adopt a new puppy or kitten.
The company has 1,500 employees, 90 per cent of whom have pets and – we’re guessing – 100 per cent of whom will be over the moon about the new parental leave.
“Pets always come first in everything we do, and that’s why pawternity leave is a natural step in developing our culture,” David Rönnberg, CEO of Musti Group, said.
“Adopting a pet is a significant decision and changes everyday life considerably. We want to support our employees during their first days with their new family member and ensure that they can enjoy those precious moments to the fullest.”
He also went on to say “Paying attention to a pet’s needs and spending time with them supports their learning, builds trust and helps prevent behavioural disorders in the future.”
As a result, Musti is now pushing other companies to seriously consider and implement ‘pawternity’ for their employees too.
