There’s no doubt that finishing a season of Outlander leaves a Jamie-sized hole in our hearts, and we begin to wonder when we can anticipate the next season. Or in this case, part two of the seventh season.

Last time we saw Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and Claire Randall Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) was at the end of the first part of the seventh season, when the couple made the decision to return to Scotland but not before Jamie was conscripted into the Continental Army.

Here, we share everything you need to know about part two of Outlander season 7

When Is The Release Date For Outlander Season 7, Part 2?

Outlander season 7, part 2 will premiere in Australia on Foxtel on Saturday, 23 November. This will be mere hours after it premieres in the US, with the first episode airing on Starz on Friday, November 22.

By the time the episodes air, it will be just over 15 months since the season 7 part 1 finale.

Outlander season 7 has 16 episodes in total. So it’s kind of like two seasons rolled into one, long season, two-part season.

Now, it would seem obvious to simply call it season seven and season eight. However, this series will cover the plot points from the book An Echo In The Bone, which comes in at a whopping 820 pages. There is a lot to get through, so that could be why they’re filming the season in two parts.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that filming the series is a big feat given the authentic sets, costumes and everything else that goes into creating a world from long ago. It’s also worth making the most of these details in the upcoming episodes, as it was recently confirmed that season 8 would be the last season of Outlander.

After filming wrapped on 28 September 2024, Starz shared a picture of Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heugan holding a clapper and the quote “Nothing is lost, Sassenach, only changed” on the show’s dedicated Instagram (@outlander_starz).

Please be aware of major spoiler alerts from the book An Echo In The Bone, which are likely to feature in season seven.

The official synopsis Outlander season 7 part 2 says “viewers find Claire, Jamie and Young Ian leaving the colonies and arriving in their beloved homeland: Scotland.

However, the perils of the Revolutionary War force them to choose between standing by those they love and fighting for the land they have made their new home.”

The synopsis also says that Jamie and Claire’s marriage will be tested  “like never before.”

Those who have read the seventh book will know what’s coming.

In the book, Claire, Jamie and Ian set off to Scotland to see the family and retrieve Jamie’s printing press. But a series of mishaps keep them in the US, so they are forced to become involved in the brewing war.

There are a few close calls as Jamie faces off against his own son, William Ransom. Eventually the family make it to Scotland (Ian has found himself a girlfriend, Rachel Hunter, by now), and they sort out all the loose ends in the mainland.

There is a familial loss that keeps them there. But when Marsali’s son gets sick Claire goes back to the US, with Jamie planning to follow on. Then, news arrives to Claire and Lord John that his boat was sunk with no survivors. In a series of unfortunate events, John is forced to marry Claire in order to keep her safe. In their grief they sleep together, but it turns out that Jamie may not be as dead as first thought.

There have been a number of renditions of Outlander’s iconic ‘Skye Boat Song’ over the years, and season seven appears to be no different.

This time, it will be the late great Irish singer, Sinead O’Connor, performing it in an emotional rendition that really flies.

Showrunner Matthew B Roberts released a statement on the new tune, saying, “Her rendition is, for me, a reminder of all that’s beautiful about Outlander. She is talented beyond measure. Hers is a voice of the ages – one which pierces heart and soul – and embodies the spirit of the show.”
