Back in Australia to host a gala dinner for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre this week, Olivia Newton-John has emerged as a strong advocate for medicinal cannabis.
“I will do what I can to encourage it,” the singer told The Sunday Telegraph. “It’s an important part of treatment and it should be available.”

Newton-John was diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time in May this year, which had spread to her spine. Along with conventional treatments, such as photo radiation, she uses natural therapies like marijuana, which is legal in her home of California (in fact, as Yahoo!7 points out, her daughter Chloe Lattanzi owns a cannabis plantation in Oregon).
“I use medicinal cannabis, which is really important for pain and healing,” Newton-John told The Sunday Telegraph. “It’s a plant that has been maligned for so long, and has so many abilities to heal.”

According to the Therapeutic Goods Administration, the Australian government is “facilitating access to medicinal cannabis products to appropriate patients for medical conditions where there is evidence to support its use.”
