Nicole Kidman has opened up about the heartbreak of multiple miscarriages while married to Tom Cruise.
Speaking to Tatler magazine, Kidman recounted the “massive grief” she experienced after miscarrying when she was 23 weeks along due to an ectopic pregnancy, which occurs when a fertilised egg implants outside the uterus.
The devastating news came in 1990, shortly after tying the knot with Cruise.
“There’s a huge, aching yearning. I know the yearning,” Kidman said.
“And the loss! The loss of a miscarriage is not talked about enough. That’s massive grief to women.”
In 2001–11 years later—Kidman suffered a second miscarriage around the same time the Mission Impossible star filed for divorce.
In an interview with marie claire in 2007, Kidman revealed: “From the minute Tom and I were married, I wanted to have babies.
“And we lost a baby early on, so that was really very traumatic. And that’s when it came that we would adopt Bella.”
Cruise and Kidman have two adopted children from their marriage, Isabella and Connor, while the actress also has two children, Sunday and Faith, with husband Keith Urban.
