At 2pm today, Taylor Swift dropped her eagerly awaited eleventh album, THE TORTURED POETโS DEPARTMENT (TTPD) to a stream of raving reviews. But to the absolute delight of Swifties, the star has released a second album just hours after her first.
Yes, thatโs 15 extra songs โ a total of 31 new songs out today โ for those counting.
In the lead up to the release of TTPD, fans noticed the emergence of a โtwoโ motif: From Swiftโs misconstrued peace sign at the Grammyโs, to the posts that surfaced in recent days of album collaborators, such as Florence and the Machine, also holding up two fingers.
And, in thoughtful Swift fashion, two hours after the first instalment of TTPD album dropped today, Swift released a โsurpriseโ second album.
โThe Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album,โ she wrote on Instagram.
โ๏ธIโd written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so hereโs the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isnโt mine anymore โฆ itโs all yours.โ
Earlier today, Swift wrote, of her first instalment of TTPD: โThe Tortured Poets Department. An anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time โ one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure.
โThis period of the authorโs life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted.
โThis writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it.
โAnd then all thatโs left behind is the tortured poetry.โ
