Paris Hilton has hit back at internet trolls who took aim at her 9-month-old son, Phoenix Barron Hilton Reum.
The Simple Life star posted a photo of her little one to Instagram over the weekend, to commemorate his first trip to New York City. But rather than congratulate the new mum on the sweet photo, which showed Phoenix perched on her lap with the caption, “My precious angel baby Phoenix’ first time in NYC,” commenters were quick to negatively fixate on his appearance.
Among the influx of comments were users blatantly making fun of the 9-month-old’s head size, while others offered unsolicited medical advice.
“Does he have encephalitis?” asked one follower, referring to a condition which causes inflammation of the brain, often due to infection.
Some were quick to jump to the child’s defence, condemning the barrage of unkind comments.
“How can people bully a baby? What is wrong with you?” wrote one user, while another echoed, “She was so kind to share a precious photo of her son with us. I don’t understand why people have to make fun of him.”
One fan even took to TikTok to post a dedicated video in response to those who were attempting to diagnose Phoenix, saying, “‘I’m going to take a wild guess and say that Paris Hilton has probably gotten her baby checked for any and everything.”
She added, “I also want to bet that [Phoenix] is a much cuter baby than most of these people in the comments were when they were babies.”
Now, Paris herself has weighed in on the debate, hitting back at haters who made fun of her baby. The socialite first commented on the above TikTok video, writing, “🥺😢There are some sick people in this world. ☹️My angel is perfectly healthy. And yes, of course he has been to a doctor, he just has a large brain.”
She then took to Instagram to defend her little one, writing, “Living life in the spotlight, comments are inevitable, but targeting my child, or anyone else’s for that matter, is unacceptable.”
She continued, “I’ve worked hard to cultivate an environment that is all about love, respect, and acceptance, and I expect the same in return. If I don’t post photos of my baby, people assume I’m not a great mother and if I do post him, there are some people who are cruel and hurtful.
“I’m a proud working mum and my baby is perfectly healthy, adorable, and angelic. I’ve dreamt of being a mum for as long as I can remember. Phoenix is my world and has been the biggest blessing of my life.
Phoenix is Paris and her husband, Carter Reum’s first child together. The pair have been married since 2021, and welcomed their son via surrogate on January 16, 2023.
Carter also has a daughter with former reality star Laura Bellizzi, who appeared on the 2010 VH1 show Secrets of Aspen.
