Married At First Sight star Susan Rawlings has made sensational claims about the series by alleging the producers ‘fed lines’ to the contestants, and that her and her co-stars were denied ‘basic human rights’ while filming.
‘They read out sentences to me, which I then had to repeat back to the camera,’ she said in an interview with Perth Now.
‘It’s an absolute sham because we are not talking to the experts and they are not talking with us. They are just pawns in a game.’
She said the producers would refuse to let them go to the toilet while filming dinner parties or commitment ceremonies.
‘A producer would come out and yell at us saying we can’t go to the toilet,’ she tells.
‘He said we aren’t school children and that we can hold it. Sometimes I was so angry that I felt like my bladder was going to burst.’
The 37-year-old also slammed the producers after the footage was edited to make it look like Susan dumped Sean, despite their mutual decision to split.
‘The editing team completely twisted it all around so that it looks like Sean went first and said that he wants to stay with me and ride off into the sunset together,’ he said.
An Endomol Shine Australia rep defended the show and its treatment of the contestants.
‘All participants are given adequate food, water and breaks and have access to psychological support, which has always been available at any time throughout the show and continues to be,’ the spokesperson said.
‘Our production is also in regular contact with the participants and are diligent in reporting any concerns to our psychologist. We take our duty of care extremely seriously.’
