In the heart of Los Angeles’ historic Miracle Mile lies a Mediterranean-style home that’s made quite an impression – both on-screen and in real life. Featured prominently as the residence of Kristen Bell’s character Joanne in Netflix’s Nobody Wants This, the property is now on the market for a reduced price of US$3.55 million, down from its original asking price of US$3.795 million earlier this year.

This 1926-era property, with its signature charm and a handful of modern twists, has attracted plenty of attention, not just because of its Hollywood connection, but because of the stunning renovations it underwent before appearing on the hit show. Previously purchased for $2.35 million in 2021, the house was transformed by New York-based interior designer David Lucindo, who was tasked with turning it from a “can of worms” into a showstopper.

From “Can of Worms” to Chic Showpiece

“It was in rough shape – there was mold, asbestos, termites, and the roof needed replacing,” says Lucindo. “We had to adjust the flow of the home but kept its original character intact, including the formal dining room, which now boasts a custom Aeterna dining table.” The Mediterranean charm remained, but the house was refreshed with a new energy and a refined aesthetic.

The result of Lucindo’s hard work is a four-bedroom, four-bathroom property that spans a generous 3,776 square feet. It’s a space that beautifully blends the old-world glamour of the Mediterranean with sleek, modern finishes.

The Home Behind the Podcast

For those who recognise this property from the Netflix series, it’s more than just a house – it’s the backdrop to many of the show’s most intimate moments. Joanne, played by Kristen Bell, and her sister Morgan (Justine Lupe) recorded their podcast in a cosy studio space within the home. The living room, with its imported Saltillo tiles, remains a focal point of the home’s design.

But it’s not just the exterior or the historical details that make this home stand out – it’s also the thoughtful custom elements that have been added. One of the most captivating features is the grand staircase, which is adorned with hand-painted tiles by a local artisan, adding a touch of personality. The second floor offers a serene escape with bright, airy bedrooms and a bathroom that exudes modern luxury, thanks to its custom-plastered walls and high-end fixtures.

A Backyard Oasis

While the interiors have been transformed, the outdoor space is equally impressive. The backyard features an in-ground swimming pool. The property also includes a separate guest house, offering extra privacy and flexibility for visitors or tenants. French doors in the kitchen open directly to the backyard, further enhancing the home’s indoor-outdoor flow, making it ideal for California’s laid-back lifestyle.

A Hollywood Ending

For fans of Nobody Wants This, the future of Kristen Bell’s character’s home is uncertain – just like the show’s second season. Will the next season find Joanne and her sister Morgan in a new home, or will they continue to record their podcast in this very space?
