You might have seen photos of Katy Perry‘s gorgeous grass-layered floral gown at the 2024 Met Gala — but what did you really see? Turns out, the pop star wasn’t there at all.
The images were apparently made by Artificial Intelligence and circulated online. But if you were fooled, don’t worry. So was Perry’s mum.
The ‘I Kissed A Girl’ singer is the latest victim of AI-generated imagery, which situated her at the Metropolitan Museum’s annual costume gala — despite her not being there at all.
Taking to Instagram, Perry was the first to poke fun at the pics.
“Couldn’t make it to the MET,” she wrote. “Had to work.” The caption appeared alongside two doctored images from the night: one of her in a flowing gown with hand-sewn rosettes and a mossy fringe, and another in a metal antique key corset and skirt of lush greenery white roses.
The images were so good, they even tricked Perry’s own mother.
“Hi feather, Didn’t know you went to the Met,” her mum messaged her. “What a gorgeous gown, you look like the Rose Parade, you are your own float.”
Katy responded: “lol mom the AI got you too, BEWARE!”
Perry has been a regular on the Met Gala stairs in years past. Who could forget the time she dressed as a burger?
