Congratulations are in order for Katrina Gorry—and not just because she’s made the Australian Olympic women’s soccer team.
The Matildas veteran has welcomed her second child, a baby boy, with her fiancée Clara Markstedt.
Markstedt gave birth to Koby Peter David Gorry, who is her first child, on Sunday morning. The couple announced the happy news via an Instagram post on Wednesday.
The Matildas midfielder and her former soccer star partner met in 2020, after Gorry joined Vittsjö GIK, a club in Markstedt’s native Sweden. However they did not begin dating until 2022.
Gorry and Markstedt announced their engagement in June 2023 and revealed they were expecting five months later.
Gorry already has one child, Harper, who she gave birth to in August 2021. The athlete chose to become a solo parent via IVF during the pandemic, and accordingly missed the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
However, she was back in flying form for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia last year. During the tournament, Harper won the hearts of football fans, quickly becoming the team’s unofficial mascot and star of their TikTok page.
On Instagram, the midfielder wrote that Harper is “absolutely in love” with her baby brother, adding “our hearts are so full.”
Gorry is part of Tony Gustavsson’s squad for the 2024 Paris Olympics, which kicks off in six weeks time. While she has spent the past three months recovering from an ankle injury sustained while playing for West Ham, Gorry is hopeful about making it to the Games.
“Obviously, it would be pretty devastating if I did have to miss the Olympics, but I trust in my body,” she told the Sydney Morning Herald. “I feel like I can get back and give what I can.”
