Kensington Palace has released a new video message from Catherine, Princess of Wales. In the three-minute clip Kate Middleton reveals she has completed chemotherapy and will be returning to royal duties later in the year. The video shows Kate, 42, summering in Norfolk with her family, including William, the Prince of Wales and Katherine’s parents Carole and Michael Middleton. She describes her experience of cancer as “complex, scary and unpredictable” and says the past year has been “incredibly tough”, adding, “Life as you know it can change in an instant.”

“With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything.” The princess has slowly been making more public appearances, leading to rumours about her return to royal duties. She was spotted recently attending the Wimbledon final with her daughter, Princess Charlotte, and received a standing ovation from the crowd.

She also was seen waving from the Buckingham Palace balcony during the Trooping the Colour festival in June.

Kate’s health problems started in January when she was hospitalised for unspecified abdominal surgery. In March, after much speculation about her whereabouts, she revealed on Instagram she was undergoing treatment for cancer. She explained the delay in a public announcement had been to give her children George, Charlotte and Louis appropriate time to process the distressing news.

At the time, she said, “It’s been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who’ve taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful.” She has since said, “My path to healing and full recovery is long, and I must continue to take each day as it comes.” She said she had been given a “new sense of hope and appreciation for life.”
