The Internet’s Hot Boyfriend Jack Schlossberg Endorsed Kamala Harris – But Who Is He?

Kamala Harris has continued her cool-points winning streak at the DNC. First, it was her Chloé pantsuit; now, it’s the endorsement of internet heartthrob, Vogue correspondent and American political royalty Jack Schlossberg.

If you’re trying to reach a millennial and Gen Z audience, Jack Schlossberg is probably exceeded only by Charli XCX in terms of “people whose approval matters.”

If you’re less chronically online and you’re wondering who this handsome character is, let us explain.

Who Is Jack Schlossberg?

Schlossberg is JFK’s only grandson, and Caroline Kennedy’s son. He has become something of an obsession for chronically online 20-somethings with a vague interest in politics (or guys with their shirts off). Schlossberg started going viral in May when he switched up his posting to comedy videos promoting Joe Biden’s campaign.

Vogue soon enlisted him as their political correspondent, presumably because he has the magic combination of political pedigree, an unnervingly chiselled face and body, and, most importantly, an aptitude for communicating complicated political messages to a terminally short-attention-span youth audience.

His TikTok commentary on the Republican National Convention has so far racked up 837.5k views, which is not bad innings.

So, while we know Schlossberg is pro-democrat, his jumping up on stage to give Kamala Harris his ringing endorsement was a moment that would have had her communications team cheering if they hadn’t coordinated the entire thing themselves (we’ll never know).

Striking a more serious tone than can usually be found on his TikTok page, Schlossberg compared Vice President Kamala Harris to his grandfather, President Kennedy. He said: “Like President Kennedy, Vice President Harris has dedicated her life to public service. She believes in America like my grandfather did – that we do things not because they are easy but because they are hard.”

He listed her commitment to fighting for working families, her focus on clean energy, gun control, and the protection of women’s rights as points in her favour. He summarised: “The choice is ours to make, and history is watching to see what we will do. Now, let’s elect Kamala Harris the next president of the United States.”

It was a rallying call not just to the democrats but to the young people who the Harris campaign (and the Democrats) are hoping to motivate to vote. While young people are more likely to support Harris, voter turnout in the United States, where voting is not mandatory, has historically been low. So far, Harris seems to have been winning their enthusiasm with young people creating ‘coconut tree‘ memes and Charlie XCX calling her “brat”. Internet jokes and chic suits don’t necessarily mean they’ll turn up to the polls.

For Harris’ team, Schlossberg’s endorsement is a step in the right direction.
