A 33-year-old pregnant woman has been stabbed multiple times in the abdomen and chest after a 14-year-old broke into her northern Sydney home.
The woman was at her Mount Colah home alone when at around 8.50pm on Thursday the boy broke in in an attempted robbery. After the attack, he fled the scene and the injured woman sought help from her neighbours, 7 News reports.
NSW Ambulance Inspector Andrew Rienits said the woman was in a critical condition when paramedics arrived.
“She was in a lot of pain. At this point in time we don’t have any information about the unborn child itself,” he told ABC.
Mark, a neighbour who assisted the woman, said, “She would have been home by herself, she was very stressed.”
“We just called 000 and waited for the police to arrive,” he told Sunrise.
Police arrested a 14-year-old boy at a nearby home about an hour after the incident.
Information on whether the woman’s unborn baby survived hasn’t yet been released.
