New York woman Angelikque Sutton was just weeks away from giving birth when her friend, Ashleigh Wade, arrived at her apartment on November 20, 2015.
Police allege Ashleigh cornered pregnant Angelikque with a knife, murdered her and cut her unborn child from her womb.
According to The New York Post, Ashleigh reportedly told officers at the scene: “It’s my baby!”
“Once she was out I fed her and wrapped her in some blankets to keep her warm,” Wade told police, court papers allege.
“Holding her felt right and I believed that the little girl was mine.”
While Sutton did not survive the horrifying ordeal, her baby girl miraculously survived.
The little girl was named Jenasis Bradley and is now 22 months old.
Her father, Patrick Bradley, told The New York Post the toddler was “doing good”.
“She’s healthy, smart. Everything’s good,” he said.
Jenasis’s grandmother, Joanna Bradley, added: “She’s doing fine”.
As the Mail Online reports, Wade’s trial commences on Monday. The Bronx woman, who had pleaded not guilty, faces up to 50 years in jail if she is convicted.
