An autopsy report has revealed sickening details about the horrific murder and torture of Ukrainian born model Iana Kasian, whose death is being considered one of the most brutal in Los Angeles history.
The body of 30-year-old Kasian was found in her apartment in West Hollywood in May last year. According to The Independent, her husband, comic book writer Blake Leibel, faces multiple charges including murder and aggravated mayhem and torture over her death.
An autopsy report released on Monday found the model died of exsanguination—the draining of a person of blood. Her secondary cause of death was repeated blunt force trauma to the head.
“[Her] entire scalp was traumatically absent and was not found, was not present with the body. Her skull had been stripped down to the surface of the bone … there was no scalp present except for little bits in the back of the neck,” Dr James Ribe wrote in the autopsy report, the Toronto Sun notes.
“Also portions of the right side of her face were torn away including the right ear and part of the posterior face on the right side, all the way down the jawline.”
The doctor said Kasian’s wounds were unprecedented.
“I have never seen this before. And I doubt hardly any forensic pathologists in this country or abroad have even seen this, outside of, perhaps, wartime … it’s extremely rare,” he wrote.
Kasian and Leibel’s one-year-old daughter is now in the custody of Kasian’s grandmother.
Leibel has written a series of graphic novels, is an aspiring Hollywood director and heir of a wealthy Canadian real estate developer.
Having pleaded not guilty, Leibel faces the death penalty or life without the possibility of parole if convicted.
