Sam Frost and Sophie Tieman may have made their name on reality franchise The Bachelor, but the two have quickly made their mark on Australia’s fashion scene. Attending Colgate Optic White Stakes Day, Marie claire spoke to Sam and Sophie about upcoming spring trends, their race day essentials – plus what they really thought of the Bachie finale.

What Do You Think Will Be Spring’s Biggest Racing Trend?
Sophie: “I find picking a spring racing trend hard. I feel like it’s anyone’s game these days because almost anything’s acceptable, whether it’s really loud or whether it’s really understated, I feel like anything kind of goes these days. But in saying that, I feel like a common trend we’ll see is a ‘less is more’ kind of style this year. I feel like a lot of people are wearing nudes and just really neutral palettes compared to other years. I mean today obviously a lot of us are wearing a pop of red, but you’ll see a lot of the base to everybody’s outfits is still quite neutrals, whites or creams, nudes.”
Sam: I love the headbands. I think they’re so chic, especially at spring racing. They make anything look chic and sharp. I love the slicked-back hair. It’s so neat and tidy – especially when it’s windy trackside. I like longer dresses. I think that, especially at this time of the year, the weather is unpredictable and so you don’t want to be stuck in something short and tight and feel uncomfortable when it’s raining. I’ve been in that situation before.
What Do You Think Will Be Spring Racing’s Biggest Beauty Trend?
Sophie: I feel like fascinators aren’t so much a thing anymore. I feel like you’re seeing much less of those and you’re seeing some gorgeous headbands, some really great pins or clips and even hats are becoming less and less. But to be honest, I’m wearing a hat today because I never wear hats and it’s a great excuse to get one and I thought it’s a great pop of colour as well to celebrate Colgate.
Sam: The headbands. The slicked-back hair and a nice eye. Something nice and sharp, clean lines.
What Are Your Race Day Essentials?
Sophie: First of all, I wake up and I brush my teeth with Colgate. Then I’ve always got on hand my Clarins lip oil, and a portable charger – always. Also, a good powder that you can touch up your face with.
Sam: I always have a small packet of Wet Ones, in case I spill something on my dress or get makeup on it. I’ve got lip balm and Telfast. I need hay fever tablets, just in case.
We Have To Ask, What Did You Think Of Last Week’s Bachelor Finale?
Sophie: That’s a really hard question for me because I didn’t watch it. I didn’t watch a single episode. It’s really hard to put into words. It’s not my year. It’s their year. So I didn’t find it appropriate to put my opinion on it every week. It’s also a big life-changing experience. For me, I’ve done it. I’ve conquered it. Life’s definitely changed for me and it took me a long time to get over that and will come accustomed to it. I’ve grown from it and I’m moving on now. So love the show still. I don’t regret having done it, but I’ve had my time. So I just wish them the best of luck to all the girls that did do this season.
Sam: To be honest, I didn’t watch it. I always feel for a runner up. I think that it’s really devastating, because when you go to that, if you go to that far, and you genuinely think that you’re going to win this person’s heart and so I think that’s really tricky. My heart goes to Abbie. Whoever comes runner up, it’s always really challenging.
