While we couldn’t imagine Hollywood without the Southern charm of Reese Witherspoon, it seems that she didn’t always dream of being the queen of rom-coms.
Before she won Academy Awards—and our hearts—she actually had completely different aspirations for her life, one being politics.
After posting a childhood photo of herself on her Instagram, the Legally Blonde star revealed that she used to have her eyes set on becoming, not just a politician, but the first female president of the United States.
In the caption, Witherspoon wrote: “I woke up this morning thinking about a moment from my childhood”.
“In the 3rd grade our teacher asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up, I raised my hand and said, ‘I want to be the first female President of the United States of America,'” she revealed. “Some of the kids laughed, but my teacher looked me in the eye and said, ‘I will be the first person to vote for you, Reese.'”
Witherspoon then expressed her support for Kamala Harris, who is officially running for Vice President alongside Joe Biden in the 2020 Presidential election. If she is elected, Harris will become the first female and female woman of colour to achieve the position.
“My thoughts today are with [women] in our country, especially the young Black and Brown girls of our nation, who have watched their mothers hold up their families, their communities, their cities, their states,” Witherspoon wrote.
“Now you know that YOU too can work hard, dedicate your life to service and show up every day to help others, and YOU can RISE to become a Vice Presidential nominee in the United States of America. Today is a truly historic day! 🇺🇸#KamalaHarris #WeHaveHerBack“
