For those whoโve spent the tail end of 2020 binge-watching The Crown, then the resurgence of Princess Dianaโs past is hardly a surprise.
And while focus has shifted back to Prince Charlesโ infidelity and Camillaโs involvement in their turbulent marriage, thereโs one relic from the Peopleโs Princessโ past thatโs on the sweeter side.
A 1985 clip of a three-year-old Prince William helping with Princess Dianaโs makeup has reemerged on social media, and itโs just as adorable as youโd expect. In the clip, William gently pats his motherโs face with a powder puff as she smiles back at him, flinching a few times when he attempts to powder her eyes.
According to Tatler, the clip is from a behind-the-scenes video from a famous royal photoshoot, featuring Diana, William, and a one-year-old Prince Harry. Taken by photographer Tim Graham, the images are some of the most iconic from William and Harryโs childhood and show the brothers sitting at the piano in their Kensington Palace home, with Diana standing behind them.
Princess Diana remains the subject of recent interest, not only due to The Crown, but thanks to a new investigation into her 1995 BBC Panorama interview. In the interview, Diana spoke candidly about how her marriage to Prince Charles broke down and the pressures of royal life, both of which apparently made Prince William โweepโ.
According to royal historian Robert Lacey, โsomething inside [William] snappedโ as he watched the interview while boarding at Eton. โBefore the 58 minutes ended, William was weeping.โ Written in his biography Battle of Brothers, Lacey explained that the Williamโs Eton housemaster, Dr. Andrew Gailey, saw his emotional response. โGailey told Diana that he found her son slumped on the sofa, his eyes red with tears.โ
William is currently supporting an inquiry from the BBC into renewed allegations that Diana was manipulated into appearing on the programme by being given forged documents to secure the interview.
