Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have spent the anniversary of Princess Diana’s death in the sweetest way possible: planting flowers at a learning centre.
On September 1, the children and women’s support organisation Assistance League of Los Angeles shared several images on Instagram of the couple planting flowers at its Preschool Learning Centre garden.
According to the charity, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the facility on August 31, 23 years after the death of Princess Diana following a motor vehicle accident in a road tunnel in Paris, France.
In an Instagram caption alongside the images, the League wrote: “In addition to helping the children replant the Preschool Learning Center’s garden, they spent time with them, sharing their appreciation for nature and helping to instil the importance of healthy eating. We truly appreciate their time and care for our students.”
According to royal reporter Omid Scobie, Harry and Meghan also sang nursery rhymes in the garden and read stories to the children.
The Sussexes are believed to have previously volunteered at the centre, which is located close to where Meghan attended school.
The Finding Freedom author also reported that the couple supposedly planted forget-me-not flower seeds, which were famously the late princess’ favourite flower.
The flower also featured in Meghan’s wedding bouquet at her nuptials in 2018. In 2006, Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho jointly co-founded the AIDS charity Sentebale. The name ‘Sentebale’ derives from a literal translation of “forget-me-not” in Lesotho dialect, according to the website Diamonds Do Good.
The couple is far from afraid to get their hands dirty, even coordinating their looks for their garden-inspired morning.
Meghan wore a denim shirt with denim skinny jeans and black pumps for the occasion, while her husband wore a navy blue shirt, jeans and brown lace-up shoes. Responsibly, the couple also made sure to wear face masks for the outing.
The Duke and Duchess haven’t been shy about using their influence to support causes over the last few months, particularly Meghan.
Recently, she sat down to talk about race and women’s rights with non-profit organisation, The 19th, back in August.
“From my standpoint, it’s not new to see this undercurrent of racism and certainly unconscious bias, but I think to see the changes that are being made right now is really—it’s something I look forward to being a part of,” she said.
“And being part of using my voice in a way that I haven’t been able to of late.”
