Stop everything: Prince Harry called his ex-girlfriend Chelsy Davy the week of the royal wedding, when they had a ‘tearful’ conversation.
A source has told Vanity Fair that the former couple, whose off-again, on-again relationship lasted seven years, spoke the week of the wedding.
“It was their final call, a parting call in which they both acknowledged Harry was moving on,” the source told Vanity Fair. “Chelsy was quite emotional about it all, she was in tears and almost didn’t go to the wedding.”
While Chelsy attended the ceremony and lunchtime reception, she was not invited to the more exclusive evening party hosted at Frogmore House.
Zimbabwe-born Davy first met Harry during her days at a prestigious British boarding school. Shortly after, in 2004, Harry arrived in Africa for his gap year – where Davy had returned for university – and thus marked the beginning of a seven-year love story.
When she and Harry, strained by the media scrutiny, parted ways in 2010, Davy fled to Zimbabwe to escape the British press: “It was nuts,” she told The Times in 2016. “That’s also why I wanted to go back to Africa. Now it’s calm, now it’s fine.”
“It was so full-on: crazy and scary and uncomfortable,” she said. “I found it very difficult when it was bad, I couldn’t cope. I was young, I was trying to be a normal kid and it was horrible.”
