Paul Mescal’s Response To Daisy Edgar-Jones’s Emmys Snub Is Incredibly Sweet

Just when we thought we couldn't love him any more

While this year’s historic number of Black Emmy nominees was groundbreaking and long overdue, Paul Mescal’s reaction to Normal People co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones’ Emmy’s snub was the cherry on the cake.

Despite the romantic drama receiving four nods all up, including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series for Paul Mescal and Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series for Lenny Abrahamson—the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences skipped over Edgar Jones’ breathtaking performance as Marianne Sheridan.

Fortunately, Mescal is just like his devoted character Connell. Speaking to Deadline about his feelings toward his own nomination, Mescal emphasised that the recognition should go to Edgar-Jones just as much as him, saying:

“I’m the biggest fan of her as an actor,” he said. “I just would not for a second have been able to do anything that I did without her. It wouldn’t have happened.” He later reiterated the sentiment on Twitter: “@DaisyEdgarJones, this only exists because of you and your extraordinary talent – it’s as simple as that.”

Reacting to the Emmy’s news, Edgar-Jones’ response was just as lovely as she is. Gracefully sharing a post congratulating Mescal and Abrahamson on Instagram, she wrote: “I could not be more proud of these two utterly incredible people, working with you both has been one of the greatest joys of my life,” she wrote in the caption, leaving Mescal “properly weeping”.

If we didn’t love the pair enough already, we certainly do now.
