At 50-years-old and with decades of illustrious career behind her, supermodel Naomi Campbell has welcomed a child into her life. The British fashion industry veteran shared a photo of her hands cupping a pair of tiny baby feet to her Instagram on Tuesday 18 May, explaining in her caption that the child, a baby girl, is her own.
“A beautiful little blessing has chosen me to be her mother,” Campbell wrote. “So honoured to have this gentle soul in my life there are no words to describe the lifelong bond that I now share with you my angel. There is no greater love.”
Campbell also tagged her own mother, Valerie Morris-Campbell, in the sweet announcement.
While Campbell has long been a financial sponsor to orphans youths in Kenya she has also previously discussed her desire to become a biological parent. During a 2017 interview with the Evening Standard, Campbell explained that she was undecided on whether she would welcome a child into her life via adoption or by herself. “With the way science is, I think I can do it when I want,” the model said at the time.
Taking her time with this precious journey seems to be Campbell’s sentiment throughout the years. In a later interview with the Wall Street Journal in 2019, the top model explained she wasn’t in any hurry to have children.
“Not yet—I’ll see what the universe brings me. For now, what the universe has delivered is very much in the spirit of a ‘chosen family’,” Campbell said.
While the model has previously expressed in the past she would like there to be a father figure in her children’s lives, no comment has been made about Campbell’s baby’s father.
Regardless, from the outpouring of congratulations from Campbell’s chosen family—including well wishes from fellow models Mariacarla Boscono and her chosen daughter’ Adut Akech, designers Diane von Furstenberg, Riccardo Tisci, Marc Jacobs, and Donatella Versace—her daughter will surely be enveloped by love regardless.
