Mother’s Day (in the United Kingdom) celebrations looked a little different this year from what we’ve come to expect from both Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle.
The Princess of Wales broke from tradition, surprising royal watchers who typically await new family photos with her three children, with a post dedicated to Mother Nature.
In the video shared to the official instagram account of the couple, showed several nature clips from beaches, woodlands, mountains and more. The only glimpse of the royal family featured is a brief shot of Kate’s hands on a tree and Prince William’s legs as he walks with their two dogs.
Reflecting on her cancer diagnosis and the year passed, Kate wrote: “Over the past year, nature has been our sanctuary. This Mother’s Day, let us celebrate Mother Nature and recognise how our bond with the natural world can help not only nurture our inner selves, but remind us too of the role we play within the rich tapestry of life. C.”
Last year’s post from the Princess went famously viral thanks to a photoshop fail.
The glaring edits led to Kate addressign speculation over the images.
“Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion with the family photograph we shared yesterday caused,” she shared at the time.
Meghan Markle also caught fans by surprise with her post dedicated to the UK holiday, despite being in the United States.
The notoriously private royal offered a rare glimpse into her private family life by sharing her “family tradition” for Mothering Sunday in the UK: a delicious lemon tart.

Though understated, it’s just the latest in a series of glimpses into the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’ life courtesy of Meghan’s newly launched Instagram account.
The account, which she started at the start of 2025, has been posting videos and photos of their lives including the rare look at their two children, Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.
It’s been an unexpected role reversal for the modern women of the royal family, but a welcome one at that.
