We don’t want to over-egg this, but Wednesday night’s Married At First Sight just might be the most jaw-dropping episode in Australian television history. From a wife swap to a disgusting act involving a toilet and a toothbrush, it’s hard to know just where to begin.

With so much drama to get through, producers don’t bother with their usual lackluster side-stories and instead send Hayley ’round to visit a fuming Stacey from the get-go.

Making no bones about her actions, Hayley admits to “hooking up with Michael”, but Stacey has her doubts because Michael thinks Hayley is “disgusting”.

Used to being the instigator of drama, rather than the target, Michael decides to stand up and address the elephant in the room at the beginning of the most tense dinner party in MAFS history.

“I did make a foolish mistake by going out when I told Stacey that I wouldn’t,” he said. “I went into the room with Chris and Vanessa and it was in that room that we were drinking, getting carried away and very drunk.

“I was dancing on Hayley and acting like a juvenile asshole. I do apologise to you Stacey for the way I behaved and I will regret it for the rest of my life.”

But he stopped short of admitting that he kissed Hayley.

“We did kiss and we did hook up,” Hayley said. “Did we party pash? F**king oath we did. What have I got to gain by saying I did kiss Michael?”

Despite Michael grinning like a Cheshire cat, for some reason Stacey decided to pin all of the blame on Hayley, letting her husband off-the-hook.

“You betrayed me and you betrayed every woman in this room,” Stacey told Hayley. “You were encouraging a vulnerable Michael and we all know he gets drunk.”

Stacey added that she was a “graduate lawyer” and that she wanted “video evidence” before she could believe Hayley’s accusations.

But the majority of the table took Hayley’s side.

Aleks and Yvan said that “Michael is more to blame” because he was meant to be in a “solid” relationship with Stacey, while David and Hayley were on the rocks anyway.

Steve added: “Everyone should be in control over their own actions.”

“Stacey, you are being way too soft on your husband,” Aleks tells her.

While Hayley (who loves to give her two cents) adds: “He’s making a mockery out of you.”

Stacey is left to consider whether she can ever trust her party-loving husband again, but for viewers, there is a far bigger argument brewing.

Hayley pulls her toothbrush out from somewhere deep in her push-up bra and hurls it at David’s face.

“You put my toothbrush in the toilet and filmed it,” she shouted. “One of your so-called mates sent it to my phone, you dog.

“Every dog has their day and the biggest dog here is you David.” (Get him Hayley!)

The whole table are shook to the core by the revelations, with even Michael admitting that he is disgusted by David’s actions as much as he “despises” Hayley.

You’d think that David would at least apologise for his deplorable act of revenge but his lack of self-awareness is astounding.

“I have been nothing but a gentleman throughout this whole experiment,” David said, as he sauntered out the door wearing a green shirt with question marks mimicking The Riddler in Batman but looking more like a class-A clown.

Expert John Aiken observes: “I don’t know if we have ever seen a dinner party unravel like this.”

No, we certainly have not John.
