Aleks and Ivan were a couple who always seemed a little smug in thinking that they were better than the drama that is Married At First Sight. But after the theatrics of the last dinner party, the conservative pair had to find out the hard way that they were nothing but two more pawns in the MAFS producers’ reality TV game.

The dinner party became too much for the pair when: 1) Michael and Josh accused them of secretly having sex but refusing to reveal it, even though every other contestant had to share intimate details of their relationships. 2) Aleks was accused of cheating on Ivan with a bearded, Serbian, Ferrari-driving man. 3) Josh and Michael then accused Ivan of conspiring against Aleks by telling them to bring up the topic of their sex lives [“We have been rooting for weeks,” Ivan allegedly told the guys] in a plot that would see Ivan swoop in and save the day.
“Ivan has been a slimy little character,” Michael said.
“It’s just a bloody joke,” Josh added. “He used me and Michael to do something that he didn’t have the balls to do. Get some balls, mate.”
But they didn’t have a chance to confront the Ukrainian-born real estate agent, 30, as he and Aleks, 26, decided to pull the plug and quit the show before their reputations were tarnished any further.
Speaking about Ivan in a piece recorded before she packed her bags, Aleks said: “I’m feeling upset and blindsided. I feel very betrayed by Ivan.
“He tries to control situations … maybe I was blindsided by him the whole way through.”
Despite there being two against one, Ivan continued to deny that he had plotted with Michael and Josh.
“I will say that Michael is lying and Josh is confused,” Ivan claimed.
The rest of the contestants were baying for Aleks and Ivan’s blood and were raging upon hearing they had done a legger.
“They are gutless,” Josh said.
“They are cowards,” Stacey added.
“That is cowardly,” Mishel said.
“I think she wanted to avoid confrontation,” Cathy said.
“Or the truth,” Steve replied.
“It’s not fair, they are not privileged,” Lizzie added.
“It takes a lot to get up [on the couch] and put yourself out there … they just don’t want to face the music,” Josh added.
On that anticlimactic note, fans had to make do with the others for the rest of Sunday night’s episode, where Jonny was confronted by the others for leading Connie on after he voted to “leave” but said he still wanted to “stay”.
“You’re sending Connie pretty mixed signals,” Mel Schilling said.
“Jonny, that wasn’t cool,” Mishel added.
“I don’t feel the spark, what the f**k am I supposed to do?” Jonny, uncharacteristically, shouted.
“Get off the fence, that was hard to watch,” Michael said.
“That was brutal,” Stacey said.
Elsewhere, Cathy and Josh both voted to “leave” because of Josh’s meddling mummy they couldn’t communicate their problems in way they could both understand.
“I know I’m not for Josh and Josh is not for me,” Cathy said. (At that very moment Josh’s mother, no doubt, popped a bottle and rejoiced.)
“I hope one day we can be friends,” Josh said.
There are just five couples left and two weeks before the final commitment ceremony. May the odds be ever in their favour.
