The First Night
In the highly-anticipated premiere episode of Married At First Sight, we’re first introduced to the lucky suitors at their respective hens and bucks nights.
The ladies made a pact to “not swap husbands”, considering the 2018 and 2019 series saw two wife/husband swaps. Although, not sure we’re entirely buying it just yet. Meanwhile, the men exchanged what they were looking for exactly, which included Michael (calling it, this season’s villain) for a girl with “substance”.
The Experts “Matching” The Couples
First up, we meet Poppy – with two adorable twin boys, and whose previous partner had a “terrible accident”. If you don’t know what we mean by that, you’ll have to watch the episode. We soon learn that Poppy will be paired with Luke, a single father with two teenage daughters looking for a stable relationship. Eventually, Luke and his former wife “grew apart” and has since been single for four and a half years.
“I’ve got really high hopes for this couple,” says expert John Aiken. “He’s strong, reliable and he’s shown he has high empathy,” Trish agrees.
We then meet Josh, a 28-year-old tradie and “family man” looking to start a family of his own. The experts decide to pair Josh with 26-year-old Cathy, who is described as “sassy”. So far, all we can tell are the two have the fact they’re both interested in having kids, are we foreshadowing a MAFS baby?
The Big Day!
Cathy and Josh are the first to start their fairytale adventure. Cathy seems excited with no nerves, telling her friends “he’s going to fall in love with me – I keep having dreams!” That’s a great start. “I just want to get it right”, Josh tells the cameras ahead of the wedding.
Cut to Luke and Poppy, and things are not as exciting, but more nerve-wracking. “What the f*ck am I doing?” Poppy asks herself while getting ready, telling the producers her pimple is going to arrive “six minutes before her” to the wedding. “She will need to drop her defences,” John says. We then learn Poppy is thinking of leaving the experiment before she’s even left. “I want to leave,” she says. “I need to step out of this full-blown panic attack.”
The panic attack is subsided with what Poppy calls “Bridal Bourban”, so all is good in the MAFS world again.
