Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth’s split shocked everyone – including Liam. According to new reports, the official statement from Miley’s rep was the first time Liam, who was in Australia at the time, had heard they were divorcing. Page Six reports, the news totally blindsided him.
The singer announced the end of the couple’s marriage on August 10th, just eight-months after they tied the knot and just a few hours before photos of her kissing new girlfriend Kaitlynn Carter surfaced.
Despite Miley quickly going public with her new partner and releasing a song rumoured to be about Liam a few days later, the actor didn’t address the break up until August 13th when he wrote a brief statement on Instagram denying that he’d spoken to the press and saying he wishes Miley “nothing but health and happiness going forward.”
Despite reportedly initially wanting to reconcile with Miley, Liam filed for divorce on August 21, citing irreconcilable differences, according to documents obtained by People. Since then, Miley has continued her relationship with The Hills: New Beginnings star Kaitlynn with the pair being photographed at New York Fashion Week and rumoured to be living together in LA.
