Despite multiple reports that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth may still reconcile after announcing their split last weekend, it looks like their 10-year relationship is over for good because – brace yourselves – overnight, Liam filed for divorce.
People reports that the Australian actor has hired famed Hollywood divorce attorney Laura Wasser and cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the marriage breakdown.
The news comes just one day after reports that Miley and Kaitlynn Carter – Brody Jenner’s ex-wife who Miley was seen kissing the day the split broke – were making out very publicly at Soho House in Los Angeles and following reports the singer is having a hard time in LA without Liam.
A source told People, “They had many happy days together in L.A. and now Liam is not around. It’s hard for her to be back in L.A. without him.” The source also commented, “Miley is okay, but you can tell she isn’t 100 per cent happy”, adding that “she hasn’t talked to Liam”.
A few hours after Liam filed for divorce, a source gave an update on Miley, saying the 26-year-old wasn’t expecting it. “She didn’t expect it and is a bit disappointed, but she is still doing well and has obviously moved on as well,” a source told People.
“What she and Liam had for a long time was very special,” they added “It’s just hard for her to think that she will never have this again with Liam. There are really so many things that she loves about him.”
The divorce comes a week after a source said that Miley and Liam were “having a break” and that there was “absolutely hope” they would make up eventually.
“They are having a break right now because they needed it. It was a bad situation with a lot of disagreements,” the source said, adding that “they both agreed it’s better to spend time apart, but this doesn’t mean their relationship is completely over…There is absolutely hope that they will get back together again.”
