After the first five minutes of And Just Like That, the absence of our favourite sex-positive, PR powerhouse Samantha Jones is addressed (and felt). But sadly, the picture that was painted about the character’s disappearance hit a little too close to home, seemingly taking a dig at the drama between Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker.
And now, Cattrall has seemingly agreed with the public’s distaste with what unfolded onscreen.
For those who need a refresher (or just trauma blocked the scene out of their memory), And Just Like That saw Carrie and Miranda walking the streets of New York discussing what went down between Samantha and the girl gang.
According to Carrie, when she no longer required Samantha’s services as a book publicist—since podcasts are the way of the future—the PR maven was apparently so hurt that she ended their 20-year friendship, ghosted the entire group and sailed off to London.
Naturally, fans weren’t convinced that Samantha would do such a thing, since six seasons of the original series proved her consistent and undying commitment to her friends.
In fact, Cattrall made it known that she felt the same way, liking a few tweets that agree with the sentiment, according to People.
“And just like that… I find myself only wanting to watch anything @KimCattrall is in,” one tweet that Cattrall liked read. “This is a Kim appreciation tweet.”
Another tweet that Cattrall also liked, said, “And just like that… I want to rewatch the 2014 HBO Canada prestige Toronto-set dramedy Sensitive Skin starring Kim Cattrall.”
Of course, neither of these tweets blatantly hate on the reboot, but the repetitive use of the show’s name, And Just Like That, certainly takes aim at it.
Sources close to the production recently revealed to Daily Mail that Samantha’s absence has been left open on purpose, in the hope that Cattrall will reprise her role for the show’s second season.
“You’ll see as the series progresses over the 10 episodes that Carrie misses her friend and wants to repair the relationship […] In the words of Oscar Wilde, life imitates art,” the source said.
“We all miss Kim and we hope she comes back for the second season–the door will never close on her, she is an important part of the franchise.
“On set, Kim has been missed by everyone. The cast and crew love her and hope she returns,” the insider concluded.
As for whether she plans to return to her role given how they’ve chosen to write out her character, well, it seems rather unlikely that we’ll see Samantha again.
For fans of Cattrall, any onscreen glimpse of the actress isn’t gone forever, since she’s currently starring in the How I Met Your Mother reboot, How I Met Your Father.
