Katy Perry has never been one to shy away from showing the authentic reality of her pregnancy and post-partum experiences following the birth of her and Orlando Bloom’s first child, baby girl Daisy Dove.
Just days after welcoming their new addition, the Smile singer shared a candid selfie sanding in front of a mirror in a nursing bra and underwear, crediting her ‘hair and makeup’ look to ‘exhaustion.’
Now, Perry has shared her thoughts on how hard the job really is.
“Popular misconception: being a mum isn’t a full-time job,” she wrote.
“Part 2: when a mum finally goes back to work (whatever profession they do) it’s not like they been coming from months of ‘time off…’ she’s coming from a full-time job… of being a mum, lol,” the entertainer continued. “Part 3: call your mum and tell her you love and appreciate her and advocate for paid family leave!”
To conclude, the new mum simply wrote: “Part 4. I love my job.”
This isn’t the first time Perry has supported new mothers. On August 27, Perry and Bloom announced the arrival of their daughter Daisy Dove via UNICEF, the organisation for which the both serve as Goodwill Ambassadors, to help support pregnant women and newborns at risk of dying from preventable causes.
“We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter,” the couple announced in a statement.
“But we know we’re the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was. Communities around the world are still experiencing a shortage of healthcare workers and every eleven seconds a pregnant woman or newborn dies, mostly from preventable causes.”
As part of their announcement, Perry and Bloom established a UNICEF donation page on their new daughter’s behalf, in “celebration of the heart we know our daughter already has.”
