When Jennifer Aniston unexpectedly joined Instagram earlier this week, she did so with a bang, quite literally breaking the platform and amassing a wild amount of followers in a 24-hour window (sheโs now at almost 12m). Of course, her introduction to social media was made that much more viral by her first photo: a selfie with all six of her Friends co-stars, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, and Matthew Perry.
Unsurprisingly, Jenโs inaugural Instagram post managed to break a Guinness World Record. In just five hours and 16 minutes, she racked up a million followers, beating out the previous record holders, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who gained a million followers in five hours and 45 minutes when they debuted their joint account @sussexroyal, according to USA Today.
Jen gave a little more context behind the reunion while appearing on Howard Sternโs radio show, revealing that the dinner party of our dreams happened at Courteney home (naturally) and that they all got together because Ross, ahem David, was in town.
โSchwimmer was in town, and we all happened to have a window of time, so we all got together,โ she said. โOh my God, we laughed so hard.โ
As for why she finally signed up to the โgram, Jen said that it was a way to control her own story. โYou can actually have a little bit more control over the narrative thatโs out there,โ she told Entertainment Tonight. โ[You can] right some wrongs and some silly things that, God knows, are said often.โ
To be honest, we think Jenโs The Morning Show co-star Reese Witherspoon, who was her sister Jill on Friends and who is an Instagram Queen, mightโve had a little something to do with it too. She posted a welcome message to Jen writing, โNow I can finally tag her in FRIENDS memes! Welcome Jen! ๐โ
