Trigger Warning: This article discusses sexual assault.
The anonymous woman who filed a civil sexual assault case against Jay Z and P Diddy in December 2024 has dropped her case.
According to documentation filed in a Manhattan court, the plaintiff known as Jane Doe voluntarily withdrew the allegations and lawsuit with prejudice, meaning its contents won’t be able to brought back to court again.
Responding to the news in a statement shared with Billboard, Jay Z’s lawyer, Alex Spiro wrote: “The false case against Jay Z that never should have been brought has been dismissed with prejudice,” he said.
“By standing up in the face of heinous and false allegations, Jay has done what few can – he pushed back, he never settled, he never paid 1 red penny, he triumphed and cleared his name.”
A further statement posted Carter’s Roc Nation X account, also included reference to lawyer Tony Buzbee – who’d previously drawn the ire of the rapper at the time of the initial claim.
“This 1-800 lawyer gets to file a suit hiding behind Jane Doe, and when they quickly realise that the money grab is going to fail, they get to walk away with no repercussions.
“The court must protect victims, of course, while with the same ethical responsibility, the courts must protect the innocent from being accused without a shred of evidence. May the truth prevail for all victims and those falsely accused equally.”
Representatives for Combs also commented on the case update in a joint statement that maintained their client’s innocence.
“We will continue to fight these baseless claims and hold those responsible,” Combs’ legal team wrote. “This is just the first of many that will not hold up in a court of law.”
What Did The Initial Case Against Jay Z & P Diddy Allege?
The federal lawsuit was originally filed in October 2024 in New York against Combs alone, but was re-filed in December 2024 to also name Carter.
The woman, who remains anonymous, simply listed as Jane Doe, claims the assault took place in 2000 at a house party following the MTV Awards’ ceremony when she was just 13-years-old. It then detailed the events of the night, where Doe says she was dropped off at Radio City Music Hall so she could approach limousines in an attempt to get access to the Video Music Awards or a respective after party.
It went on to claim one driver told her she “fit what was Diddy was looking for” before inviting her to a party following the show. Per the documents via NBC, the woman alleges upon arrival she signed a document to gain entry to the party and was offered a drink that left her feeling “woozy, lightheaded and felt [like] she needed to lie down”. It is then that the woman alleges she was raped by Carter and Combs as an unnamed female celebrity watched on.
“Another celebrity stood by and watched as Combs and Carter took turns assaulting the minor,” the suit stated.
The documents were filed by Houston lawyer Tony Buzbee, who is also representing several other lawsuits against P Diddy.
At the time, Jay Z released a formal statement denying the allegations via the Instagram page of his entertainment company, RocNation.
“These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!! Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?” it read.
“These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case. This lawyer, who I have done a bit of research on, seems to have a pattern of these type of theatrics!”
He then outlined the “heartbreak” the accusations will cause his family, wife, Beyoncé, and three children, Blue Ivy, Rumi and Sir.
“My only heartbreak is for my family,’ Jay-Z said. ‘My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims, and explain the cruelty and greed of people.
“I mourn yet another loss of innocence. Children should not have to endure such at their young age. It is unfair to have to try to understand inexplicable degrees of malice meant to destroy families and human spirit.”

Buzbee followed up Carter’s statement with a reponse of his own, it reads: “Regarding the Jay Z case and his efforts to silence my clients: Mr. Carter previously denied being the one who sued me and my firm. He filed his frivolous case under a pseudonym. What he fails to say in his recent statement is my firm sent his lawyer a demand letter on behalf of an alleged victim and that victim never demanded a penny from him. Instead, she only sought a confidential mediation.”
It goes on to say, “Since I sent the letter on her behalf, Mr. Carter has not only sued me, but he has tried to bully and harass me and this plaintiff. His conduct has had the opposite impact. She is emboldened. I’m very proud of her resolve. As far as the allegations in the complaint filed, we will let the filing speak for itself and will litigate the facts in court, not in the media.”
Sean P Diddy Combs is currently in prison in New York, after being denied bail and is awaiting trial for sex trafficking and racketeering charges on May 5.
Outside of the federal charges brought against Combs, a further 120 civil lawsuits are expected to be laid by Buzbee.
“We will let the allegations in the filed complaints speak for themselves, and will work to see that justice is done,” Buzbee told Deadline upon first announcing his intentions to pursue the lawsuits.
