Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx reportedly ended their super-private six-year relationship back in May, however, the split only became public knowledge over the weekend, after Foxx was spotted leaving a Los Angeles nightclub holding singer Sela Vave’s hand.
People were quick to assume that Vave had something to do with the famous couple’s split and reports started surfacing that Foxx was ‘disrespectful’ and would often see other women.
In an unexpected turn of events, Foxx has spoken out to clear up the rumours, saying that Vave is someone he is mentoring and that their relationship isn’t romantic at all. In the video posted to Instagram Foxx says, “I’m not an old n—a out here with some young folks” and that Vave is “as young as my daughter.” He went on to say that the public’s reaction is a double standard and that there was never any controversy when he mentored Nick Cannon or Ed Sheeran, who both stayed at his home for a time during the start of their careers (though to play devil’s advocate, he wasn’t photographed holding hands with either of them).
“It’s a double standard when it comes to women — when it was the guys, everything is cool but when it was the women they try to make it something else but we are going to try to protect our own,” he said. “And like I said, I spoke to that girl’s mom and she put her trust in me.”
“I embrace all the artists that come here. And even what happened in the press with our girl Sela — that’s our family. We don’t ever cross the lines like that, personally,” he continued.
Vave posted Foxx’s video on her own Instagram, writing in the caption, “For the people who care… here is the TRUE story(swipe)… for everyone else you can keep talking and calling me a whore, slut, home wrecker, thot, gold digger, that I should die, and what ever else you want. Because it doesn’t matter to me, I’m out here to work and do what I love most. #music#killthedoublestandard.”
As for the reason behind Foxx and Holmes’ split? People‘s source says the relationship just “ran its course,” however, Us Weekly‘s source blamed the split on Foxx, saying the two were living “different lives” and that “It has been many years of him stepping out with other women…He’s disrespectful and their lives were different. His partying ways don’t fit with hers as she’s focused on raising her daughter and working.”
