When it comes to getting real with her fans, Gwyneth Paltrow doesn’t hold back.
Through her lifestyle brand, Goop, the world knows almost everything there is to know about The Politician actress, from her intimate scents to her unique living arrangements with husband, Brad Fulchuk.
But now, Paltrow has opened about her former husband, Chris Martin, explaining to the world that their conscious uncoupling left her feeling rather, well, “ruthless”.
On January 28, the Goop mogul took to Instagram to see what her fans really wanted to know about her, letting them send through any question they wanted.
Naturally, her 7.8 million followers flooded her inbox with queries and curiosities on everything from her favourite Goop recommendations to her most cherished onscreen moments. But one in particular, focused on her infamous split from Martin in 2014 that led to a divorce in 2016.
“Do you feel like you can really move on after a divorce?” one fan left in her ‘Ask Me Anything’ prompt, to which she said that you “absolutely” can.
“Oh, absolutely. It’s a great opportunity to get ruthless with the truth of who you really are, what you want, and what you deserve,” she wrote.
However, many fans continue to wonder if Paltrow has retained a healthy and supportive relationship with Martin—who is the father of her two children, Apple and Moses—and his longtime partner, actress Dakota Johnson.
Taking it into their own hands to get the answer., another fan asked if she loves Johnson. Paltrow put minds at ease by simply replying, “Very much.”
In June 2021, Paltrow opened up about how her relationship with Martin has adapted over time, explaining that he feels like family to her now.
“He’s like my brother. You know, he’s my family,” she said on Today, adding, “I love him”.
“And I’m so grateful to him for giving me these kids. It worked out well… You know, it really did, I have to say.”
Of course, things weren’t easy all the time. In fact, Paltrow has previously shared that ending their 11-year marriage was one of the hardest decisions she’s ever made, saying that she couldn’t imagine calling things off at one point.
“I never would have wanted to get divorced,” she said on Anna Faris’s Unqualified podcast in April.
“I never would have wanted to not be married to the father of my kids. Theoretically.”
Despite her previous feelings, Paltrow admitted that thanks to the split, she was able to lead a healthy relationship with her current husband, Falchuk.
“I had learned more about myself through that process than I could have imagined,” she said.
“And because I focused on accountability, I was then able to find the most amazing man and build something that I’ve never had before.”
There you have it, Paltrow got her fairy tale ending after all.
