Drew Barrymore Started Flirting With A Stranger At The Park, But There Was One Problem

The actress is diving right back into dating.

Drew Barrymore has always kept it candid when it comes to her dating life. In the wake of her divorce, the actress was quick to confess that she’d taken a hiatus from love, not just for her own sake, but for her children’s, too. Now, it seems Barrymore is ready to take the plunge again, but with an old-school twist, as dating apps are off the table.

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Drew confessed that she wants to meet someone naturally, in real life.

“I still want to meet someone the old fashioned way,” she said, referencing her dislike of dating apps. Then, she went on to share the hilarious moment where she attempted to pick up a man in Central Park.

“I walked up to a guy in a park and I was like, ‘Are you single?’ And he was like, ‘Perhaps.’ And I said, ‘Well, that’s not no!’ And then I was like, ‘Are you gay?’ Because I also always bark up the wrong tree,” she explained, with laughter erupting in the audience.

As it turns out, the man was not gay, but there did prove to be another problem — their age difference.

“We got to talking, and we had such a good laugh and such a lovely talk, and then I was like, ‘Oooo, I think I forgot to ask you a very important question. How old are you?’ And he was like, ’28,’ and I was like, ‘Ahhh! Oh no, oh no! I don’t mean this rudely. You look so much older.'”

Unfortunately, the age gap proved to be a deal breaker for Barrymore, but even though it didn’t work out, she’s still proud of putting herself out there (and as it turns out, so is the stranger).

“We had a great conversation, and we didn’t bother with the obligatory, ‘Let’s exchange numbers.’ And I just said, ‘Great. I gotta tell you, I just wanted to do something that I could make myself proud today.’ And he goes, ‘I’m proud of you,'” she said. “And we walked away and it was a positive experience. I want to do it again.”

Despite the setback, Drew seems excited about dating again, previously revealing to Entertainment Tonight that she “loves dating.”

“I think it can be very fun and I don’t do it very often. I think I’m averaging, like, one or two dates a year, which feels constant in a busy life,” she told the publication. “Most of them have been not so great but to me those are like funny stories and I never want people to get cynical out there,” she said. “You have to be hopeful, and you have to do it for yourself. Get ready, play music, put on your favourite outfit.”

Wise words from a wise woman.
