Christina Applegate is an incredibly private person. Having spent the past year in privacy, coming to terms with the reality of her 2021 multiple sclerosis diagnosis, the actress has been keeping a low profile.
That all changed recently when the third (and final) season of Dead To Me dropped on Netflix and Applegate reappeared in the public eye to accept her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Her husband of eight years, Martyn LeNoble, stood by her side while she accepted the accolade. The two have been married since 2013 and engaged since 2010, sharing a very low-key kind of love and one daughter.
Below, everything you need to know about their relationship.
Who is Christina Applegate’s husband?
Martyn LeNoble is a Dutch bass player who was born in the Netherlands before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a music career. He has played bass guitar in various bands including Too Free Stooges, Jane’s Addiction and The Cult. In 1992, he became a founding member of alt rock band Porno for Pyros along with Peter DiStefano and two former members of Jane’s Addiction.
Applegate and LeNoble were friends for a decade before striking up anything romantic. While undergoing a double mastectomy for breast cancer in 2008, LeNoble was a rock for the actress, whom she leaned on heavily during this time.
“I have a small but mighty support system and Martyn has really been an incredible part of my life,” she told Us Weekly in 2010.
“Without him, I don’t know if I could’ve gone through any of it. He came around at a time when there was a lot of loss in my life on many levels, so he’s been a really incredible help.”
LeNoble popped the question on Valentine’s Day 2010, with Applegate of course saying yes. They wed at their Los Angeles home three years later, but during that time, welcomed their daughter Sadie Grace LeNoble in January 2011.
In October 2017, Applegate underwent another major surgery, opting to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes after discovering ovarian cancer ran in her family.
“Two weeks ago, I had my ovaries and [fallopian] tubes removed,” she shared during a Today segment. “My cousin passed away from ovarian cancer in 2008. I could prevent that. That’s how I’ve taken control of everything.”
LeNoble was by her side again, and has been throughout her MS diagnosis which she discovered in 2021. He was present with her at the Hollywood Walk of Fame, alongside friends, family and fans.
Applegate gushed over her daughter during her acceptance speech, saying: “The most important person in this world is my daughter. You are so much more than even you know. You are so beautiful and kind and loving and smart and interesting…thank you for standing by me through all of this.”
LeNoble has one other child from his previous marriage, a daughter named Marlon. She graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2019 and appears to be working as a photographer.
Who was Christina Applegate’s first husband?
Prior to things with LeNoble taking a romantic turn, Applegate was previously married to fellow actor Jonathon Schaech. The pair got together in 1997 and were married in Palm Springs in 2001.
By December 2005, Schaech had filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences, but a statement from their publicist at the time revealed that it was a mutual decision between both parties. Their divorce was finalised nearly two years later in August 2007.
“My marriage was connected to my career, everything about my work, Schaech said during a 2022 appearance on the Whine Down podcast.
“I loved her so much. I still love her so much. I don’t think [wife Julie Solomon] will ever be offended that I would ever say that.”
