Pinterest has long been one of the go-to wedding destinations for millennial brides and grooms everywhere with images of everything from the location to the cake to the floral arrangements and, most importantly, the dress, available to scroll through for inspiration.

But soon one of Hollywood’s most iconic couples, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, will have their big day banned from the website because of the location where they chose to hold their September 2012 nuptials.

The pair married at the Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina – where scenes for The Notebook were filmed. While the famous pair didn’t ever share photos of their wedding with the public, Blake is rumoured to have worn a Marchesa gown.

Though Blake’s engagement ring prompted thousands to opt for an oval shaped diamond – even Hailey Baldwin admitted to being inspired by it – her and Ryan’s wedding location is banned on Pinterest and The Knot, another popular wedding website, due to the fact that it took place on a plantation.

In recent years, the wedding trend has been widely criticised for glamorising the history of slavery in the US and as a result Pinterest has decided to ban plantation wedding content and is currently working to de-index Google searches so that they won’t show up on the site.

Speaking to BuzzFeed News, a Pinterest spokesperson said: ‘Weddings should be a symbol of love and unity. Plantations represent none of those things.

We are working to limit the distribution of this content and accounts across our platform, and continue to not accept advertisements for them.’

Though they’ve recieved ongoing criticism for holding their wedding on a plantation, neither Blake nor Ryan have addressed the backlash.
