Brittany Higgins has officially wed her partner of four years, David Sharaz, in an intimate ceremony in the bride’s home state of Queensland.
The fairytale nuptials took place at the Currumbin Valley Estate on June 1, with the couple speaking exclusively to marie claire Australia about the big day.
“We’ve gone through more in the last few years than most couples will endure in a lifetime. But it was all worth it to see David standing at the end of the aisle,” Brittany shared.
David echoed his bride’s sentiments, calling their wedding “the greatest day of [his] life”.
“I’ve been looking forward to marrying Brittany since I first laid eyes on her all those years ago,” he told marie claire. “That said, celebrating with our family and friends and seeing Brittany truly happy for the first time in years, after everything she’s had to go through, was the greatest day of my life.”
Brittany is a fierce advocate for survivors of sexual violence, after her own experience thrust her into the spotlight in 2019. Less than two months ago, Higgins saw the conclusion of a year-long defamation trial brought by her accused rapist, in which the Justice sided with Brittany’s testimony. Brittany has been vocal about her mental health and wellbeing during this time.
The pair announced the happy news of their wedding via Instagram, with Higgins, 29, sharing a trio of images of the newlyweds in the chapel. In one image, the pair shared a romantic kiss beneath arched windows and fairytale floral sculptures.
“Today I married my best friend,” Higgins captioned the post.
Meanwhile, Sharaz also shared images from the day, alongside a single phrase: “The best day of my life.”
Followers piled into the comments to congratulate the pair, and admire Higgins’ dress by Australian designer Paolo Sebastian.
The gown featured a long-sleeve lace bodice, belted with a bow waist-band before flourishing into a ball gown skirt. Higgins shared exclusive images of the elegant look with marie claire.
Of her bridal gown, Higgins said: “Paolo Sebastian is an Australian designer I’ve been obsessed with for years. To collaborate with Paul to create the modern Grace Kelly dress of my dreams was such a privilege.”
Higgins carried white and blush roses for the occasion, and wore her hair down, accessorised by a long veil.
The bridesmaids wore matching, floor-length black dresses.
Higgins and Sharaz met in May 2020 while David was working as a producer on Sky News. He said he saw the “beautiful” Ms Higgins walk through the doors of Parliament House, an encounter he has previously called “love at first sight”.
In December 2023, the couple moved to the south of France, to continue their life in a quaint French village.
