Britney Spears has revealed she had abortion after falling pregnant with Justin Timberlake.
In an explosive excerpt from her upcoming memoir The Woman In Me, published by People, she said the pregnancy “was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy.”
“I loved Justin so much,” she wrote. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated. But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.”
The duo, now both 41, dated between 1999 and 2002, when they were in their late teens and early twenties.
Reflecting on the experience two decades on, Britney wrote, “If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father.”
“To this day, it’s one of the most agonising things I have ever experienced in my life,” she added.
Justin has not responded to Britney’s account.
Britney’s much-anticipated memoir is set for release on October 24. It’s publishing comes two years after she pleaded in court to put an end to her 13-year-long conservatorship, which saw her father, Jamie Spears, in control of all aspects of her life.
Britney also addressed this dark period in the upcoming novel, writing, “Thirteen years went by with me feeling like a shadow of myself. I think back now on my father and his associates having control over my body and my money for that long and it makes me feel sick.”
“The woman in me was pushed down for a long time. They wanted me to be wild onstage, the way they told me to be, and to be a robot the rest of the time,” she added.
Offering never-before-seen insight into the controversial arrangement, Britney also alleged that her father infantilised her, crushed her passion for performing, and told her she “looked fat.”
