Set at Walsh Bay Pier amongst an iconic, glittering Sydney harbour backdrop, marie claire’s Women of the Year Awards for 2024 was a night to remember.
In attendance were some of the country’s most inspiring women, including Jackie O, Emma McKeon accompanied by partner Cody Simpson, Narelda Jacobs, Pip Edwards, Grace Tame, Edwina Bartholomew, Melissa Doyle, Maria Thattil and Melissa Leong.
At the entrance, two Volvo cars standing guard welcomed our special guests for the evening before they walked our signature black carpet. There was no shortage of glamour with many guests shimmering in Swarovski jewels and their best gowns.
The evening was hosted by marie claire’s Editor Georgie McCourt, who looked heavenly in a black Max Mara column sheath dress.
As she kicked off the affair, guests took to long tables adorned with candle-lit blooms for a three-course dinner complete with G.H. Mumm champagne, that buzzed with a mix of positivity and empowered excitement.
Guests were also treated to a special space to touch up their makeup courtesy of Revlon throughout the evening.
As the Women of the Year were announced from each category, their speeches made us laugh, cry and cheer. Grace Tame set the scene for the evening with three words we won’t repeat here while Designer of the Year, Liandra Gaykamangu’s moving words had many welling up with tears.
Upon receiving the Changemaker of the Year Award, Vanessa Turnbull-Roberts, spoke of country and place, the “power of spirit” and the fact “change never happens alone” in a moving speech. As always, Celeste Barber managed to make a statement while bringing the room to fits of laughter, telling everyone to “just keep kicking it in the d**k”, after being announced as Entertainer of the Year.
A performance of Titanique! proportions closed out the evening from the cast of the hit musical. Guests were buoyed by the collective support for women in the room, leaving with hearts and hands full, courtesy of a custom marie claire branded tote containing goodies from Dr Lewinns, Revlon and more.
