There’s no denying that we’re ridiculously spoilt for choice when it comes to Australian fashion designers with celebrities often looking Down Under for their outfit inspiration, despite having a sky’s-the-limit wardrobe offering.

But across the ditch in New Zealand, they too have been making waves internationally with designers such as Karen Walker, Kate Sylvester and Zambesi often seen sitting pretty on the likes of Meghan Markle and Gigi Hadid.

Ahead of New Zealand Fashion Week, we take a look at the Kiwi fashion labels worth having on your radar – and in your wardrobe.

Georgia Alice

Undoubtedly the firm favourite of fashion industry insiders, influencers and celebrities for the past five years (think Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Solange and Georgia Fowler), Georgia Alice makes timeless fashion, which exudes i-look-really-good-but-i’m-not-trying cool. Think of GA as the Glossier of fashion.

Paris Georgia

Paris Georgia burst onto the fashion scene with a ’90s slip dress women everywhere couldn’t get enough of. Since then, the contemporary label has become a wardrobe staple, approved by the likes of French cool-girls Jeanne Demas and Louise Follain.

Maggie Marilyn

Launched in 2016, Maggie Marilyn’s first collection quickly receiving international acclaim – being stocked on Net-A-Porter from day one is no easy feat – and the nod of approval from celebrities such as Kendall Jenner, Karlie Kloss and, more recently, ultimate mumager, Kris Jenner.

Harris Tapper

Launched in November 2017, Harris Tapper is the latest Kiwi label to have us hooked, especially given its focus on shirting and reinventing wardrobe classics.

Penny Sage

Of late, Lonely has been better known for its stunning lingerie and unretouched campaigns, but before Lena Dunham and Kylie Jenner made Lonely Lingerie go viral, its clothing equivalent Lonely Label was sitting pretty on almost every Kiwi girl.
