A mother-of-five with a terminal brain tumour has given birth to a sixth baby, a daughter named Life, while in a coma.
As PEOPLE reports, Michigan woman Carrie DeKlyen was diagnosed with glioblastoma—a tumour that can affect the brain and spinal chord—in April. After undergoing surgery she was then accepted into a clinical trial for experimental treatment.
However, when Carrie and her husband Nick learnt she was pregnant with her sixth child, doctors advised that they would need to terminate the pregnancy in order to go ahead with treatment.
“The doctor said if you don’t terminate this baby, Carrie, you will die,” Nick told PEOPLE in August. “But it was Carrie’s decision and I said, ‘What do you want to do?’ She said, ‘We’re keeping it.’”
According to the local media outlet MLive Michigan, Carrie gave birth to Life Lynn DeKlye on Wednesday.
Sadly, Carrie has now been taken life support and remains in hospital.
“Carrie is off all support and very comfortable she is in God’s hands until he calls her home. Please pray for all of us,” a post on the Cure 4 Carrie reads.
Husband, Nick, has committed to raising their children on his own if his wife passes.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for the DeKlyen family. You can donate here.
