Most of the time the surprise and jubilation of finding out someone is expecting is enough, but in recent years celebs have been upping the ante in the way they share the news.
Rather than a simple IG post, debuting the bump has become an artform, and some celebrities just get it.
So, what are some of the most iconic baby announcements to date? Look no further, we’ve rounded up the most elaborate and bizarre ways that a bun has been confirmed to be in the oven.
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky are the GOATs (greatest of all time) when it comes to revealing their pregnancies in dramatic ways.
With their first child, the pair kept the pregnancy a secret until they were ready to share the news. They were then purposely papped on the streets of New York, with Rihanna in an open pink Chanel puffer coat, showing off her bare bump.
Then, with their second, they kept the bump private until Rihanna performed at the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show, in a red Loewe jumpsuit, zipped down to reveal her bump, and Alaïa puffer coat.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z
Beyoncé revealed her first pregnancy with daughter Blue Ivy onstage. The singer was performing at the 2011 Video Music Awards (VMA’s) performing hit single ‘Love On Top’ in a sequined suit jacket.
At the end of the song the singer literally ‘mic dropped’ and unbuttoned the jacket to reveal her new bump.
Their second pregnancy was revealed in a pregnancy lingerie shoot on Instagram, but the big surprise was that she was expecting not one, but two little ones.
Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott
Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott kept their first pregnancy with daughter Stormi a secret throughout the entire nine months Jenner carried her. The Keeping Up With The Kardashians alum didn’t share the news until she had delivered, on Instagram in a 13 minute video.
The world was in complete shock, and when she later revealed the baby’s name online, it became the most liked post on the platform at the time.
Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik
While multiple news reports were circulating that Hadid and Malik were expecting, she didn’t personally confirm the news until she was on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
“Obviously, you know, we wish we could’ve announced it on our own terms, but we’re very excited and happy and grateful for everyone’s well wishes and support so…” she said.
Hadid did the show over zoom as it was during the coronavirus pandemic self-isolation rules.
Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom
Singer Katy Perry decided to get creative when it came to announcing the daughter she was expecting with partner Orlando Bloom.
The singer revealed her bump at the end of the music video for her song ‘Never Worn White’. Soon after she took to Instagram Live to talk with fans about the news saying, “It’s probably the longest secret I’ve ever had to keep.”
Keke Palmer and Darius Jackson
American actress and singer Keke Palmer also decided to go bold with her bump, revealing her first pregnancy live on Saturday Night Live.
While hosting the cult show she began with a skit about how everyone had been saying she was pregnant. “I want to set the record straight,” she said, opening her suit-style coat to reveal her bump. “I am,” she said, while the crowd cheered.
Adriana Lima and Andre Lemmers
Former Victoria’s Secret model Adriana Lima and her partner Andre Lemmers revealed their third pregnancy on Instagram, but she debuted her bump in a 2022 Alexander Wang show.
The model wore a dress with the stomach cut out to show off her little one and sported thigh-high boots and dark lips to finish off the vampy look.
Cardi B and Offset
Cardi B announced that she was expecting a baby with partner Offset during her Saturday Night Live performance back in 2018. The singer debuted her song ‘Be Careful’ in a ruched white gown that hugged her new bump on stage.
After keeping the pregnancy a secret for so long she said as she walked offstage, “I’m finally free.” The moment was captioned in a video posted to Brooklyn Johnny’s Instagram page.
Tan and Rob France
Queer Eye star Tan France revealed that he was pregnant with husband Rob France on Instagram, but it was the way he revealed it that caught everyone’s attention.
The fashionista posed naked from the waist up, with one hand cradling a ‘bump’ and the other covering his nipples. He photoshopped a sonogram where a womb would be and captioned it, “WE’RE HAVING A BABY!! No, I’m not pregnant, despite this VERY realistic pic. With the greatest gift/help of the most wonderful surrogate.”
Grimes and Elon Musk
The world had no idea that Grimes and Elon Musk were expecting, because they were having a baby by surrogacy. The child was born in December 2021, three months after they announced their break up in September 2021 after being together for three years.
Adding to the drama, Grimes didn’t actually share the birth on her own accord. The existence of daughter Exa Dark Sideræl Musk was only revealed when a Vanity Fair journalist was interviewing the singer in her home, heard a baby crying upstairs and directly asked if she’d had another one.
