From dancing to Beyonce to date nights with her husband, Michelle Obama proves again and again that she’s just like us.
And in her hotly anticipated memoir, Becoming (Penguin, out tomorrow), the former FLOTUS gets candid about her struggles to conceive.
“We were trying to get pregnant and it wasn’t going well,” wrote the now-54-year-old. “We had one pregnancy test come back positive, which caused us both to forget every worry and swoon with joy, but a couple of weeks later I had a miscarriage, which left me physically uncomfortable and cratered any optimism we felt.”
Speaking on Good Morning America to promote her book, she added, “I felt like I failed because I didn’t know how common miscarriages were because we don’t talk about them. We sit in our own pain, thinking that somehow we’re broken.”
In the memoir, the former first lady also reveals that daughters Malia and Sasha were both conceived through IVF, and shares her disdain for Donald Trump.
